New exhibit at Children’s Discovery Museum

NORMAL, Ill. – On Sept. 14, 2026, the Bloomington & Normal Water Reclamation District (BNWRD) approved $2 million to go towards installing a new water exhibit at the Children’s Discovery Museum, located at 101 E Beaufort St., Normal, IL. 

Beth Whisman, the Executive Director of the Children’s Discovery Museum, spoke about how this new exhibit will impact children once it’s installed.

“It is time for us to do something fresh that is awesome and water is a vital resource. Part of our mission is to educate our children about their community,” Whisman said. 

Beth Whisman continued to discuss how this opportunity will be beneficial to the community.

“This was just a great opportunity to work with our partner Bloomington & Normal Reclamation District. They have been really thinking about public education,” Whisman states.

With this water exhibit being a remodeling of a water table that has been there for 20 years, Whisman shares her excitement to upgrade this water exhibit into something that can be a part of the museum’s attractions. 

“It’s exactly what we need in the enclosure of the building, which gives us an extra footprint to actually do the water table and then take that water table and better integrate into the rest of the museum,” Whisman continues. 

This water exhibit will be for all ages, and the museum directors are really excited about this opportunity to modernize their water exhibit and make it accessible to all age groups.
