Redbirds Prepare for Road Stretch After Successful Weekend

NORMAL, Ill. — Illinois State soccer is preparing for the first of four straight road games after having a successful week at home. After losing its first game of the season in late August, Illinois State went 1-0-1 in their last two home games.

After shutting out Purdue Fort Wayne in a 3-0 win, the Redbirds now turn to Eastern Illinois, as they will play the Panthers at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Along with their strong record, junior defender Kaya Durkee was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defender of the Week. This was Durkee’s first career award and the first of the season for an Illinois State player.

The Redbirds are coming off their best statistical game, recording season highs in goals and shots. It was also their second shutout of the season, with the last shutout coming against Lindenwood in August.

Eastern Illinois currently sits at 2-2-2 after a 1-0 loss against Ball State. The two teams have played 17 times, with the Redbirds holding an 11-5-1 record. The most recent matchup took place in September of last year and ended in a 0-0 tie.
