Illinois State Women’s Soccer Suffers First Loss of the Season at Loyola Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. — Illinois State women’s soccer suffered its first loss of the season to Loyola Chicago suffering a 2-0 loss Sunday at Loyola Soccer Park.

Both teams had plenty of chances on goal early on, with Redbird goalkeeper Madi Valenti tested twice by the Ramblers’ attack. ISU responded with shots from Rylann Law, Grace Petrie and Aniya Seymore. The Redbirds created opportunities from set pieces but failed to take the lead, and the score remained 0-0 at the end of the first half.

The scoreless game continued late into the second half, until Loyola Chicago took the lead through Sarah Collins in the 74th minute. The Redbirds pushed for the equalizer with shots on goal from Maggie Dowling and Molly Hughes.

However, the Ramblers added a second goal with Maggie Schmidt and the Ramblers closing out a 2-0 home win. ISU fell to 2-1-2 and Loyola Chicago improved to 3-2 on the season.

The Redbirds return to Adelaide Street Field Thursday to play St. Louis. Kickoff time is 6 p.m.
