Everything I Wanted (& more)- Evan Honer Allbum Review
Grace Bush
Evan Honer is an American Indie-folk artist from Arizona. Taking a look at his
discography, Honer has released 4 albums, alongside multiple singles, and EP’s. With his first
album being released in 2023, Evan has since grown as a musician and an artist. Honer’s first
album, West on I-10, contained only 11 songs, while his newest release is the deluxe version of
Everything I Wanted, containing 18 songs, 5 more than the original album. I have been following
Evan Honer as an artist for 2 years since he released his second album, Fighting For. I started
listening to his music when he was at less than 1 million monthly Spotify listeners. With his
career taking off after his third headline tour, Honer is now set to headline 6 music festivals this
year.
I was lucky enough to snag some tickets to see Evan Honer back in March last year,
where he performed at Thalia Hall in Chicago. His setlist for that show consisted primarily of
songs from his former albums. While also including a couple of sneak peeks into some later
releases.
Looking back at his past albums, Honer addresses themes of leaving home,
self-discovery, love, and loneliness. These are all topics that I, and maybe even you, can relate
to. With songs like “I Don’t Know S*** About Cars”, from his album West On I-10, confronting
that feeling of leaving. He discusses how growing up and leaving home, you quickly realize how
little you know about the real world.
Evan’s new album dropped in January of 2026. Honer revisits that topic of love, but in a
more intense and passionate way. With songs like, “Long Road”, Honer is in search of closure
looking for what he did “wrong”. While also discussing how healing from love is a journey with
many hardships often referred to as “potholes”. With another song, “Die A Drunk” going over
topics of coping with lonlieness with alchoholism.
Overall, Evan Honer’s new album touches the topics of love and moving on in a more
heavy way. With more self reflections in these tracks than past songs, it’s clear to see that
Honer intends to enter a new chapter of his life after the release of this album. He also leans
more into the Pop-Indie genre then some of his previous songs may have seemed.
As a long time fan, it is really amazing to see an artist grow from less than to a million
monthly listeners to headlining music festivals. Although, I’m not a huge fan of the pop aspect
being incorporated into his music style more, I understand that it’s expected as each artist
grows, to make their music slightly more “comercialized” than it previously was in order to
maintain relevant.
This was not my favorite album Honer has released, but I still think he did an amazing
job with each track. In every song Evan sings he has a story to tell. I think that despite adding
more pop into his art, he did a really good job maintaining that consistency of story telling in his
songs, which is something that makes him stick out as an artist for me. I highly recommend
checking out Everything I Wanted (& More) as well as his other albums and songs in general
