NORMAL, Ill. — For the sixth straight season, Illinois State Redbirds women’s basketball will be playing in the postseason.
The Redbirds were selected to compete in the 28th annual Women’s National Invitation Tournament. Last year, ISU was just one game away from the championship game but fell to Troy 99–96.
The Redbirds will be making their 17th appearance all-time in the WNIT and their fifth under head coach Kristen Gillespie.
Illinois State received a first-round bye in this year’s tournament and will play either Austin Peay or Texas Rio Grande Valley in the second round. The date, time, and location are still to be determined.
ISU had a strong season and was one game shy of making the Missouri Valley Conference championship game but lost to Evansville 75–70 in overtime. The Redbirds finished the season as the third seed in the MVC and currently hold a 20–13 record. They’ll look to add to that total during the WNIT.
