ISU Gymnastics Falls to Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan Despite Multiple Season High and Career High Scores

NORMAL, Ill. – Redbird Gymnastics fell to Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan Gymnastics on Friday in Ypsilanti. ISU posted a season high 194.675, while WMU won the meet with a 195.275, and EMU came in second with a 195.200.
The ‘Birds started the meet on floor where they posted a 48.375. Seniors Jaly Jones and Courtney Woods tied for tenth place, each scoring a 9.700.
Illinois State then moved over to vault, where they put up their first season high event score of the night, a 48.925. Junior Madyson Baucom and sophomore Savannah Ray tied for the top spot on vault, each with a score of 9.825. Baucom’s score became her new career high, besting her previous record of 9.725. Freshman Mia LeBlanc tied for eleventh place with a 9.750.
Bars was up next for the Redbirds where they posted a 48.250. Junior Jada Beswick scored a 9.775 to tie for seventh place, while freshman Jercy Koliego tied for fourth place and tied her career high with a 9.800.
ISU’s final event of the night was beam, where they put up their second season high event score of the night, a 49.125. That score was also the highest of any single event score this season so far. Ray scored a 9.750 to land in eighth place, while Woods and senior Mia Oh each scored a 9.825 to tie for third place. Junior Ally Lau placed second with a 9.850, and Jones took home the event title with 9.875, her career high.
LeBlanc competed all-around for the first time as a collegiate athlete at this competition, where she came in second place with a score of 38.675.
The ‘Birds will compete in Michigan again this Friday, facing off against Western Michigan in Kalamazoo at 4 p.m.
