NORMAL, Ill. – The Bloomington Bison played lockdown defense, not allowing a single goal in their Sunday game against the Indy Fuel. Despite taking fewer shots, the offense took advantage of scoring opportunities and gave the Bison a 3-0 victory.
Bloomington had played two home games the previous two days and were outscored 8-2 in total. The Cincinnati Cyclones had control over the entire game on Friday, putting constant pressure on goalie Dryden McKay and scoring five times.
The Fuel took the first game after gaining momentum in the first period with two goals, and one more at the end of the game.
Bloomington turned things around on Sunday, coming out aggressive in the first period and getting the first four shots of the game. They scored their first goal at 10:00. Indy tried to fight back, getting nine shots in seven minutes but could not find the net.
The second period had both teams trading shots the entire length, but both goalies managed to make the period scoreless. Bloomington extended their lead six minutes into the third period, putting them in a more comfortable position. With 17 seconds left in the game and an open net due to a goalkeeper change, Eddie Matsushima assisted Mikhail Abramov for just his third goal of the season.
Despite Indy getting a last second shot off, the game ended 3-0 Bison. McKay ended the night with 27 saves.
The Bison play at home once again on January 28th, where they take on the Tahoe Knight Monsters for the only time this season. After Wednesday, Bloomington will be on the road until February 20th.
