Redbird Track and Field Win the Coughlan-Malloy Cup

NORMAL, Ill- Redbird Track and Field travelled out to Terre Haute, Indiana to take on the Indiana State Sycamores for a battle for the Coughlan-Malloy Cup on Saturday. The Birds won the Cup for the first time in 2 years, taking down the Sycamores 153-147.
ISU won 15 out of the 28 total events that took place. The men for ISU won their side by a total score of 79-70 and the women gave a good effort but fell just short by a total score of 77-74.
In Mid-Distance and Distance, ISU found themselves winning 6 events, being a great strength on Saturday.
Assistant coach Claire Fuhlhage said she was “really proud of how the distance group performed today.”
Kane Shields and Luke Barham both finished in the top 3 for distance in the men’s side of things. Freshman Pauline Schedler set a new facility record with a time of 2:50.77 in the 1000m run on the women’s side.
For sprints, senior Lindsey Miller placed 2nd in the 60m dash with a time of 7.47. Junior Chavi Flowers finished just behind her with a fourth place finish and a time of 7.67.
The Redbird men earned the top 2 spots in the 300m dash. Enyinnaya Nwagwu got the meet record with a time of 34.88. Sophomore Reece Curtis followed him for second place with a personal best 35.32.
The women swept the hurdles for the 60m portion. The 3 runners who placed were Nya Browne, Macee Rivers, and Erin Starks. This was by far the best event of the day for the Birds.
Abby Milott and Ava Lawless led the Redbirds in jumps as they finished 3rd and 4th in the long jump. The Redbird men swept the top 3 spots in the long jump.
For throws, Cole Stevens took home first place for ISU on the weight throw as he had a launch of 17.70m.
Finally, in relays, the Redbird women won the 4x400m relay title.

500m dash – Star Mpama, 1:19.43
1000m run – Pauline Schedler, 2:50.77
1 mile run – Becca Heitzig, 4:49.23
3000m run – Mattison Plummer, 9:42.57
4x400m relay – Chavi Flowers, Erin Starks, Cambria Geyer, Star Mpama, 3:50.63
The winners for the men’s events included:
300m dash – Enyinnaya Nwagwu, 34.88
1000m run – Cayde de Waal, 2:27.27
1 mile run – Kane Shields, 4:17.68
3000m run – Blake Oleson, 8:35.87
High jump – Rob Pulliam, 2.06m
Long jump – Rob Pulliam, 7.43m
Pole vault – Seth Nelson, 5.01m
Shot put – Jacob Klink, 17.86m
Weight throw – Cole Stevens, 17.70m
The next meet for the Redbirds will be this upcoming weekend, January 23rd and 24th in Iowa City for the Larry Wieczorek invitational.
