ISU hosts annual Veterans Day ceremony

Written by on November 11, 2025

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State University Veterans and Military Services Office held a Veterans Day ceremony in the Bone Student Center on Tuesday.

The event is held annually in the Prairie Room on the second floor of the building. According to Coordinator of Veterans and Military Services Patrick McGuire, the event has become an important tradition to the campus.

“The purpose is to recognize veterans and other military-connected students on campus as well as in the community,” McGuire said. “And to understand the importance of veterans in general, and recognize them for their service.”

The Veterans and Military Services Office is meant to aid veteran and military-connected students, such as those in the national guard or reserve, or those who are children or otherwise dependents of veterans.

“We help veterans and other military-connected students, and make the most of their education benefits,” McGuire said. “Through either G.I. Bill benefits or other scholarships.”

G.I. Bill benefits are offered through the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. Because of this, the function of the office has been somewhat impeded due to the government shutdown.

According to McGuire, there have also been delays in payment processing for various benefits.

The Veterans and Military Services Office can be found in Moulton Hall or contacted online.
