NORMAL – Illinois State’s Health Promotion and Wellness department have brought back its annual Koru 1.0 Mindfulness course.

The course returned to Illinois State University this past Thursday night at McCormick Hall.

The four-week course’s purpose is to help with learning about and practicing different mindfulness and meditation techniques.

These techniques can improve sleep, reduce anxiety; improve focus, academic performance, and eating behaviors.

The goal of participants is to gain a greater sense of well-being and happiness.

Kerri Calvert, Coordinator and Planner of Well-being initiatives, believes that the course over the past few years has been worthwhile for many students and staff who participate in the course.

“When people leave, they come back saying I sleep better of I feel less stressed out,” said Calvert. “We try to teach different skills to help deal with the problems they want to address during the course”.

According to Calvert, the course has received positive reviews resulting in continuing the course.

The course meets once a week every Thursday and each session is 60 minutes long.
