BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Humane Society of Central Illinois will be hosting a garage sale fundraiser on Thursday and Friday at the Bloomington Moose Lodge.
Director of Community Engagement Nicole Monson said that this fundraiser is one of their biggest events of the year.
“Over the period of a month or so, we collect items from people who want to donate,” Monson said. “If you can imagine, a normal garage sale times 100.”
The Humane Society’s mission is to find permanent homes for abused, abandoned and unwanted animals in Illinois. According to Monson, events like these are essential to keep the organization running.
In addition to participating in fundraisers like this one, Monson encourages college students in the Bloomington-Normal area to volunteer at their shelters if they’re interested in helping.
“A lot of students are not at home with their pets,” Monson said. “We love to have students volunteer at our shelter.”
Monson also mentioned Redbird Animal Advocates, a new registered student organization at ISU that is linked to the Humane Society. They plan to host a number of events this year, both on and off campus.
The garage sales are on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Both will be held at the Bloomington Moose Lodge.
