Redbird Softball sweeps weekend set against Valpo

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Softball swept Valparaiso this past weekend in Indiana, bringing its record to 16-25.

In game one, Hannah Meshnick took the mound to start for the Redbirds and went 6 innings, giving up 4 hits, 5 strikeouts, and only 1 earned run. Senior Delainey Bryant went 2-4 on the day with one run, and Senior Abby Knight also went 2-4 with one run. Senior Addison Masching was 1-4, earning herself an RBI double. Sophomore Adisyn Hopkins was 1-3 with an RBI. Paige McLeod closed it out for Illinois State with a final score of 2-1.

Game two’s starting pitcher was Pagie McLeod, and she went 5.1 innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 walks, and 2 earned runs. Illinois State offense cranked up with Bryant going 2-3 with a triple and 2 runs. Sophomore Julia Larson was 2-3, Sophomore Ella Boyer 2-4 with a double and a run, Freshman Tatum Wolford 1-4, earning herself 3 RBI’s, Masching went 1-4 with an RBI double, and finally Knight 1-4 with an RBI. Closing out the win for the Redbirds was Junior Hannah Meeks with a final score of 6-2.

In game three, Hannah Meshnick was up again for the Redbirds, this time pitching the whole game, giving up 2 hits, 1 earned run, and 8 strikeouts. Highlights from that game were Knight being 3-4 with an RBI, Hopkins going 2-4 with a home run and earning the team 2 runs. Larson went 2-4 with an RBI double, Walford 1-4 with an RBI, and Junior Bella Atkinson went 2-3 with a double and a run. Redbirds win 5-1.

This week, Redbird Softball plays a three-game series against Missouri State in Normal. The first pitch is at 5 pm on Thursday.
