BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA) is hosting Valentine’s Dance on Saturday, Feb 1, featuring the musical stylings of The Aristocrats. Director of Arts and Entertainment Anthony Nelson explained what the evening will entail.
“There will be tables for people to sit at, the dance floor is open, there will be a bar. It’s just kind of a relaxed atmosphere for people to come and enjoy a night out,” Nelson said.
Dances in the community like this one originated a while ago, pre-dating COVID-19. After they died down originally, fans in the area wanted them again, so the BCPA decided to bring it back, along with the musical talent that had been hired previously.
“In past years, it was very similar with just kind of a small dance floor and a cash bar, and then a local band would play on the stage for about a three-hour long event,” Nelson said. “We just kind of wanted to keep the price down for everybody, so we’re keeping the same process.”
By keeping the dance consistent with years past, cost is minimized and both past and present attendees won’t be expecting any surprises.
“A lot of the community who has been calling for this are super excited when we put tickets on sale,” Nelson said. “We had enough people that were wanting to do it to make it a go, so they are definitely excited to kind of get out of the house and do something different.”
The event is open to couples and individuals alike. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
