Redbird Football extend winning streak behind Weaker Wright

NORMAL, Ill. – After picking up the victory against Youngstown State last time over the weekend, Illinois State football traveled to Cedar Falls to take on Northern Iowa, looking to extend their winning streak.

Coming into this game, the Redbirds were on a two-game winning streak and a record of 6-3 looking in prime position to make the FCS Playoffs. .

Early on in this game, both teams struggled to score points, with the only score coming from an ISU field goal. But in the second quarter, quarterback Tommy Rittenhouse scored a rushing touchdown to put them up 10-0. To close out the first half, UNI scored a field goal to cut the lead to 10-3.

In the third quarter, ISU would score their second touchdown of the game with a rush from runningback Wenkers Wright. The Redbirds would score two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and UNI would kick two more field goals. ISU would win this game 31-9 and move 7-3 on the season.

Rittenhouse would throw for 251 yards and a rushing touchdown. Wright would rush for 109 yards and two touchdowns, followed by runningback Matt Lawson with 84 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Daniel Sobkowicz finished this contest with 136 receiving yards.

Next time out, the Redbirds will travel to Indiana next Saturday at 12 p.m. to take on Indiana State in an ISU vs. ISU clash.
