Redbirds Shine with Top 5 Finishes at SIU, Look Ahead to Purdue Invitational

Redbird Swim and Dive competed at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale this past weekend. Although their competition against the SIUC Salukis and UIUC Fighting Illini did not end in their favor, they did acquire finishes in the top five in three events. In the three-meter diving competition, Selena Corona placed fifth with a score of 196.45. As for swimming events, the team of Chloe Tyler, Sydney Hoff, Mia Snow, and Ella Turken placed fifth in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.82. Lauren Wisdom came out with a fourth place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time 10:27.26, and freshman Hope Westphal ended that race in seventh place with a time of 10:55.73 as well.

In the 100 yard freestyle, Adi Luker and Giulia Basco placed ninth and tenth respectively. Sydney Hoff and Shelby Gourley placed ninth and tenth respectively in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time difference of 1.08 seconds. As for the 100 yard backstroke, Chloe Tyler finished in eighth place with a time of 56.67 and Delaney Boulden placed ninth with a time of 58.21. Mia Snow was also able to snag second place in the 100 fly with a time of 55.34. On the diving board, freshmen Emma Thompson and Isabel Poggenklass finished in seventh and eighth place with a score difference of 1.75.

Looking ahead, your Redbirds head to West Lafayette, Indiana to compete at the three-day Purdue Invitational on November 21, 22, and 23. They are set to take on the Purdue University Boilermakers, Grand Canyon University Antelopes, Florida International University Panthers, Southern Illinois University Salukis and McKendree University Bearcats.
