Cage the Elephant – Neon Pill

Sky Rodriguez September 23, 2024

May 17th 2024…a day to remember. The day American Rock band, Cage the Elephant, finally released a new album, Neon Pill, after 5 years of silence. Neon Pill is thirty-eight minutes of meaningful bliss that I truly can’t stop listening to. At album number six, I can confidently say they’ve perfected their craft, if they hadn’t already. From Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked on their very first album to Good Time on their most recent, there has been a noticeable shift in their sound. We go from rock and grunge to an almost sultry and indie sound and I must say, I’m not disappointed about it. Although I love rock n’ roll, this is a good sound for them.

The album opens with the song HiFi (True Light), which is a great depiction of what to expect from the rest of the album. It’s upbeat with a catchy chorus and steady drum line. It then moves on to my personal favorite song Rainbow. This has been the most popular song off of the album so far and for good reason. A love song about wanting a person or a thing so bad because they make you feel good, which I’m sure is something we can all relate to. Throughout the album there’s some slower songs like Float Into The Sky and Out Loud that you can definitely cry to if you’re feeling down. Finally the album closes with Over Your Shoulder, which starts off slow and picks up a bit as the song goes on but it’s a perfect end to a perfect album about moving forward even when it gets hard.

I will say, lead singer Matt Shultz continues to sound better as each album goes on and the band’s creativity continues to blow my mind. This album is Matt’s personal story . He was prescribed medication that put him into psychosis, but he got out and this album is a testimony to that. If

listen to the lyrics, you will hear a story about pain, love, sorrow, and a light at the end of the tunnel. I would say it’s one of their most emotional albums to this day and worth the listen if you haven’t already. Cage the Elephant is a band worth the hype.
