Ariana Grande – Eternal Sunshine

Collette Schnoor April 8, 2024

This week I listened to Ariana Grande’s new and highly anticipated album Eternal Sunshine. I have been consistently listening to Ariana’s music for more than a decade since her first album release in 2012. I was a huge Victorious fan so she was one of the first artists I ever chose to listen to as a kid. I have loved seeing her grow with her music and was really excited to see what she made for us this time.

With Ariana’s most recent albums over the years, I found that I have been drawn to only a few songs from each album and the same happened with this one. In this album I feel like I expected a tiny bit more. I think Ariana has a very defined place in the industry at this point and could definitely start adding more unique sounds to her music. I really liked the song Bye which is the second song on the album. It had this cool synth-like noise throughout the whole song and was paired with Ariana’s impressive and beautiful vocals and it made me excited to hear more!

The next couple songs had good lyrics and vocals but felt a bit repetitive but I loved the Saturn Returns Interlude. She always puts clips of people talking in her albums and it adds personality and uniqueness to her albums. So seeing her do that again in this album made me very happy. I also love seeing her songs make it on the charts and the radio, which a couple of her songs have done yet again like “Yes, and” and “We Can’t Be Friends”. Those are a couple of my favorites off this album so it’s nice to see her get recognition for them.

I don’t think this album was bad in the slightest because Ariana Grande is incredibly talented. But I found that a lot of the songs were very similar to each other and all gave me this kind of artificial and overly polished sound. But sometimes, especially in the pop genre, this is the sound people are looking for and I think she definitely does it very well. I think seeing a more creative route from her would be very cool though. My favorite off Eternal Sunshine is “I Wish I Hated You” because the lyrics are so relatable and I loved the backgrounds on this specific track. I definitely would recommend giving this album a listen!
