NORMAL – Illinois State University Community Engagement department held their annual meet and greet event at the Children’s Discovery Museum.
The event hosted student government association and elected officials of the town of Normal.
Students and the community were able to meet local leaders and council members for the Town of Normal. This year guests were able to explore the Children’s Discovery Museum while meeting officials.
The event was held for students who want to bring light to topics to elected officials.
Stan Nord, a member of the city council explained the reason why he has stayed in Normal for years.
“When I got married and had kids, I wanted to raise them in Bloomington, Normal,” said Nord. “So I did not come here for a job, I came here for the community, the schools, the lifestyle that Bloomington, Normal has to offer.”
Nord, later on, gave insight as to what his role is as a council member.
“My role is to vote on different issues that the town staff may bring before us to vote on. Creating policies, questioning policies, questioning if the policy is being followed, discussing things with the other town council members, and above all, representing the citizens of Bloomington, Normal.”
At the meet and greet, the town of Normal Mayor Chris Koos emphasized how important it is for students to vote and share their input for the decisions that the town makes. The community works on making Normal feel that it is another place to call home for students
The event looks to be successful for years to come for the Town of Normal and ISU.
