Bloomington Police Department to undergo re-accreditation from ILEAP

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Bloomington Police Department will be revised by the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP) from Nov 20th through Nov 22nd, in their efforts to remain an accredited police department, a status they first earned in 2019.

ILEAP will go into the station to ensure procedures, standards and policies are up to date; if not, revisions will be made. Public Information Officer of BPD Bryce Jansen spoke on what they can expect to hear from the agency.

“It really just depends on those individuals who are doing the accreditation to depend on what is going to change for our station. If they see something in those policies and procedures that stand out to them, they could recommend some kind of change”, Officer Janssen said.

One of the main reasons the ILEAP will be running over its checklist is to provide critiques for the department to allow for a safer town.

Jansen added, “The reason we want to get accredited is to ensure accountability and transparency, and it helps to have that outside force to come in and look at things. This will let people know that the rules that they have in place are inset for law enforcement.”

An accreditation period last four years, so revisions can be expected to be proposed by 2027.
