ISU police look to have a safe Easter weekend

Written by on April 17, 2019

NORMAL – Illinois State University Police are preparing for the holiday this upcoming weekend as things will be busy on the roads and the campus.

As Easter approaches, people are going to be traveling home as roads and highways will become extremely busy with traffic. Just as it is important to be safe and not distracted when driving, it is also imperative that drivers are aware of road laws regarding emergency vehicles.

Scott’s Law, which is known informally as the “Move Over Law”, requires drivers to pull over and decrease the speed of their vehicle, change lanes, and proceed with caution when an emergency vehicle is stopped along the side of the roadway.

Recently, some Illinois State troopers have lost their lives due to people not moving over. As a result, ISU Chief Of Police Aaron Woodruff says it’s essential that drivers make sure that they are obeying this law.

“I think if you see police cars out there and you see the lights or even if it’s a tow truck or anything, make sure you are moving over to make sure you are driving safely,” said

ISU police are looking to make safety precautions a high priority for the roads and campus, as they try to ensure that everyone is being safe during the busy weekend.
