NORMAL- Former Illinois State Men’s basketball assistant coach Brian Collins has been named the next head coach for Tennesee State University.

Collins is headed back to his home in Tennessee as he takes the helm of the TSU Men’s basketball team. Collins spent time as a TSU graduate assistant and Director of Operations from 2007-2009. Before becoming an assistant coach for the Redbirds in 2017 , Collins was the assistant coach at East Tennessee State during the 2015-2016 season.

Collins was a key piece in the Redbird coaching staff led by Dan Muller that helped the Redbirds to an 18 win season in 2018. Collins has a good resume of experience in getting his teams to the NCAA Tournament during his time as a player and a coach.

ISU head coach Dan Muller says he believes Collins has qualities needed to be a great head coach. Muller spoke highly of the terrific and energetic personality Collins has that helped him connect to the Redbird players and his ability to get the best out of these players on the court.

“He’s gonna be a really good head coach because he checks all the boxes as far as a basketball coach,” said  coach Muller. “I could not be more excited for him to be able to go home and  getting a chance to be a head coach”.

Collins becomes the 18th head coach in TSU Men’s basketball history.
