ST. LOUIS – The Illinois State men’s basketball team (16-15, 9-9) will face the Evansville Purple Aces (11-20, 5-13) tonight in the first round of Arch Madness.

The Redbirds come into the tournament as the 7 seed, having missed the opening round bye. While the team is still confident they have the ability to make a run, Senior forward Phil Fayne talks about how they are taking it one game at a time.

“We have elite confidence stepping into each game but we can’t get too ahead of ourselves thinking about the NCAA tournament. We have got to take it one game at a time.”

The Redbirds swept their regular season series with the Purple Aces winning both on the road and in Redbird Arena. It will be a new experience for the members of this team having to compete on the opening night of the tournament.

“It’s our first experience playing on Thursday and everything, if we have the right mindset and feel for it we can handle it” said Fayne.

This weeks edition of the RedZone will be broadcast live from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis and lead into the live call for the Redbirds first round matchup against Evansville at 8:30 pm.

Should the Redbirds defeat the Purple Aces for a third time tonight they will then find themselves facing 2 seeded Drake (23-8, 12-6) on Friday. The Redbirds also swept their regular season series with the Bulldogs.
