17-year-old arrested in connection with homicide investigation

NORMAL –  After multiple gun shots rang out in the 1400 Block of E. College Ave., Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner announced in a Press Confrence Thursday afternoon that a 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the deaths of two individuals.

Normal Police were called to the 1400 Block of E. College Ave around 10 p.m. on Wednesday night after a report of multiple gun shots. NPD said that two individuals were found unresponsive in the doorway of 1444 E. College Ave. McLean County Corner Kathy Davis announced that Joseph F. Gardner, 20, of Bloomington and Reginaldt Hart Jr., 19, of Bloomington both died from multiple gunshot wounds.

“This is a very sad situation I would say,” added Normal Chief Bleichner. “We are all saddened by what occurred, and we are saddened for the families that had to go through this. I will say that we are still very early in the course of the investigation. Although there has been tremendous work done in that time frame (since the shooting), but there is still a quite a bit left to be done.”

Bleichner added that he can not comment if drugs had anything to do with the situation, nor could he comment on the guns themselves. In addition, Bleichner added that charges could be announced as soon as Friday.

“We are in the process of searching for a weapon,” added Bleichner. “Any weapons that we do find will require additional testing to see if that was the firearm that was used in that crime. We believe that through the course of our investigation that there is no other individuals involved in this incident.”
