BLOOMINGTON – The YMCA is continuing to make preparations in advance of its annual Strong Kids Campaign, set to kick off later this coming week.

The non-profit’s fundraiser aims to bring the community together while providing equal access to its facilities for everyone, including those experiencing financial hardship.

Serving as the Executive Director/CEO of the Bloomington-Normal YMCA for almost 9 years now, B.J. Wilken has had his fair share of experience with this event as well as other fundraisers of the like. Throughout this year’s Strong Kids Campaign, Wilken hopes that YMCA can raise over $210,000, which would be enough to support roughly 2,200 people in various ways.

“At the YMCA, our mission is to never deny access to the YMCA due to the inability to pay for membership and program services … Every year we raise money in order to provide scholarships and grant to kids and families in our community to participate in our programs.”

The kick the campaign off, the Bloomington-Normal YMCA will be hosting a breakfast for various members and leaders of the community. Over 250 community leaders are expected to be in attendance, where some will provide testimonials about the YMCA’s story, in support of the fundraiser. The breakfast will take place on the morning of Thursday, April 12th, from 7:30-8:30am.

Those interested in attending the event are encouraged to contact the YMCA with inquiries, and all members of the community are encouraged to donate either in person or online at http://www.bnymca.org/daxco/make-a-difference/. The fundraiser will run until June 30th.
