Album Review

DJ Khaled – Grateful

DJ Khaled – Grateful

By: Genae Thomas

DJ Khaled is anything but new to the scene. The King of Anthems debuted his first album Listen…The Album, in 2007. His latest album, “Grateful”, makes for the 10th studio album under his belt.

“Grateful” gave me all the feels! From feeling rejoiceful, to feeling joyful, to feeling myself – and I am grateful for every single one of them. The album started with a powerful intro where Khaled seems to give thanks for his success, the biggest being his son Asahd.

Next we hear “Shining” (feat. Dionne Warwick & Beyonce), “To The Max” (feat. Drake) & “Wild Thoughts” (feat. Bryson Tiller & Rihanna) these popular and upbeat songs that make you want to hit the dance floor!

In the midst of the turn up, Khaled pleasantly surprises us with slower tempo, “Nobody” featuring a spicy duo, Alicia Keys and Nicki Minaj. I really enjoyed the shout-outs the King of Anthems gave to his little prince, Asahd. Not to mention the adorableness that is the cover!

In the infectiously catchy song, “I Love You So Much”, Khaled says ‘You’re my son…you’re a legend.. you’re the greatest…’ That may seem a little extra to some, but I loved it! Later he goes on to actually incorporate the alphabet in his song, featuring Chance The Rapper. Before you know it, you’re singing along to, ‘Where your eyes at..where your ears at, where your ears at, where your mouth at, where your nose at..” This is a prime example of why DJ Khaled is so loved. His unique spirit is uplifting and comes out through his music.

A few of my favorite tracks were, “On Everything”( feat. Travis Scott Rick Ross, & Big Sean), “Down For Life” (feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR, Future, Travis Scott, & Kodak Black), and “I’m the One”, (feat. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, and Lil Wayne) that easily rose to the top of the charts. Khaled is more than grateful for everything that he has now and in the future. While creating a project that is so fun and lit, he was still so clearly able to portray that. Khaled’s biggest blessing is Asahd. He began and ended his album expressing his gratitude for the birth of his son.
