Gucci Mane
Mario, D.N.A
Mario’s fourth album, D.N.A, dropped on October 13th, and the album’s first
single, “Break Up,” makes me want to do just that to Mario. The song
features Guccia Mane and producer Sean Garrett, and why it was chosen as the
single, I couldn’t even begin to fathom. It is quite easily the worst song
on the album. The true songs that should have been made hits were the
super-sexy and radio-friendly “Ooh Baby,” the heartfelt break-up song “Get
Out,” or the catchy dance hit “Starlight.”
This album is surprisingly good for being reviewed by somebody who prefers
Jay-Z and Kanye West-esque hard beats and plain hip-hop to R&B crooners like
Mario, and it is definitely far more tasteful and a lot cleaner than his
third album, Go.
Listening to Mario’s fourth album made me remember why we first started to
love him when he stepped on the scene with his first hit “Just a Friend
2002,” a Biz Markie cover. Now I know that Mario can write his own songs,
and back them up with a great voice, too!
